Lizards Relocated by Mercedes: F1 Team Finds New Homes for Campus Reptiles
Mercedes has successfully rehomed seven lizards discovered at their Brackley factory. Named by the team, these reptiles were found during construction work at the facility and have now been safely relocated.
When the lizards were discovered, Mercedes reached out to a local school in Northamptonshire, where students were tasked with naming the reptiles. The final names chosen were Ziggy, Whizzy, Lizzy, Lissard, Lenny, Fizzy, and Blizzard. The children also contributed by drawing pictures of the lizards.
To ensure the lizards’ safety during construction, Mercedes established a dedicated habitat on campus. “We’ve created areas with logs and stone paths for them to sunbathe and developed a wildflower meadow beside our woodland. Our hope is that they will thrive here for many years to come,” explained Alice Ashpitel, the team’s sustainability manager, in an interview with the BBC.
In the coming months, Ziggy, Whizzy, Lizzy, Lissard, Lenny, Fizzy, and Blizzard will enter hibernation. Mercedes hopes to see them “build up their community” by 2025.
